Vantage Sensitivity, Regulating Emotions, and My Next Step

Dear HSPs,

Happy 2013 and doorway to spring. I hope it began well for you. I managed to start the year by breaking my big toe, keeping me mostly off my feet and off Holly, the horse I ride. I'm happy to be writing you, if not riding her.

This year is going to be an active one for me. See the Upcoming Events below. Meanwhile I hope you enjoy these articles:

Thank you, parents! Over 1,000 of you responded to my request that you answer a survey about parenting. I truly appreciate so many of you taking the time to do that. Now we have to analyze the data and then write The Highly Sensitive Parent. You have made it a book based on solid data.

A New Book

Our dear Dr. Ted Zeff, author of several books on high sensitivity, including The Strong, Sensitive Boy, has now written a book for all parents: Raise an Emotionally Healthy Boy: Save Your Son from the Violent Boy Culture. This is a must for everyone involved with the upbringing of boys--parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts and uncles--the whole village that it takes to raise a boy who respects life. Read it, give it as a gift. The book is full of ideas, not just wishful thinking. A father himself, a counselor, and an expert on sensitive men, he knows what he's talking about. This book will serve all HSPs, since we would be much happier in a less violent world. Ted Zeff is doing something about that.

Upcoming Events

April 26-28: Kripalu, Western Massachusetts. Simply billed as "A Weekend for Highly Sensitive People with Elaine Aron." I rarely do an entire weekend like this, so it is an unusual chance to be together that I look forward to very much. I will discuss the latest research and answer all questions, but mostly we will keep it easy and restful as we get to know each other. You will like the nourishing food and soft energy at Kripalu, just right for HSPs, and April in the Berkshires should be full of light and grace.

May 9-13: HSP Gathering Retreat in Stockholm, Sweden (actually, in nearby Enkoping). This, the 26th HSP Gathering Retreat, is a wonderful opportunity for HSPs in Europe to get to know each other and benefit from Jacquelyn Strickland's extensive experience facilitating these events. Register soon, as it is sure to fill up. From Stockholm, it is about a forty minute train ride to Enkoping, then a short taxi to Harjaro Resort. It's possible to come on Sunday only, when I will speak on "Growing Wiser as HSPs by Understanding our History of Attachments to Others."

May 14, Oslo, Norway: I will be speaking in the morning as part of an all-day seminar aimed for professionals (business, health care, psychology, etc.), but also open to the public. Alas, I do not have more information on this yet, except that it will be at the architecturally renown Oslo City Hall, but I will post more as I know more.

September 26-30, HSP Gathering Retreat in Loveland, Colorado (only 30 minutes from beautiful Estes Park) at Sunrise Ranch, www.sunriseranch.org I will be there by phone if not in person. Registration Form coming soon. This will be the 27th HSP Gathering. The last in Colorado was in 2009, the first was in 2007. Don't miss this chance to enjoy autumn in the Rockies with Jacquelyn Strickland as she brings together HSPs from around the country and the world. This will be another one of those crucial opportunities for you to be in an HSP-only environment and gain a deeper understanding of your trait. These gatherings can be life changing, so be sure to attend at least one. For more information visit: http://www.lifeworkshelp.com/hspgathering.htm

November 3, Wellington, New Zealand. I and my husband accepted an invitation to a small, select conference on close relationships at the University of Victoria. It is a long ways to go, from California to New Zealand, so while I am there I also wish to meet with those HSPs in New Zealand and even Australia who can come. More details in later issues and on this site as we have them.
