New research on how and why HSPs are more easily bored in their relationships, an article by Ted Zeff on highly sensitive men, and a report on HSPs in Israel, including this one, who went there for the first time.

Two New Books

Ted Zeff's new book, The Strong Sensitive Boy: Help Your Son Become a Strong, Confident Man, came out just after the last Comfort Zone, so we waited to launch it this time, with the article by Ted, as well as the book in the book store, signed by him.

My own book, Psychotherapy and the Highly Sensitive Person: Improving Outcomes for That Minority of People Who Are the Majority of Clients (Routledge), is also now available. This is a book more for psychotherapists and counselors than for the general public. Those of you who have already checked it out may have been surprised by the price--the hardcover (for libraries mostly) is around $80, but on Amazon the paperback is about $40. The high price is due to the fact that things are done differently in academic publishing (authors also receive no advance). My contract does not allow me to undersell the publisher, so you can buy it here for $45 with my signature.

A Special Gathering

This one is at Walker Creek Ranch again, in California, September 2-6 (Labor Day). HSPs are notoriously slow at signing up for things, and this newsletter has been equally slow to come out. So, Jacquelyn is extending the early sign up discount, which is supposed to end Aug. 23, to those receiving this newsletter. Contact her for more information.

The Ranch is in Petaluma, California, north across the Golden Gate and very close to the wine country and redwoods. If you like to be far into nature, in warm, golden hillsides dotted with dark green oak trees rustling with sea breezes, this is the place. You will definitely see wildlife, including whatever arises from the celebration of our 20th Gathering!

Big Response at the American Psychological Association Convention

I just returned from there, where we had organized a symposium on "High Sensitivity, a Personality/Temperament Trait: Lifting the Shadow of Psychopathology." Four papers were presented. I will tell you about them in the next newsletter. For now, the news is that about 100 attended. SPS (Sensory Processing Sensitivity) is finally attracting interest from mainstream psychologists.
